ARTIST STATEMENT

Abraham Lincoln stated “Commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality”.  My goal as an artist is to stimulate a generation, during times that presents a dire hunger for the wisdom of Love.  As I watch the news, experiencing the pain(s) of the ails of crime and violence seeping through the tears of widowed mothers, and vengeful families; I ask where are the outlets for this surge of misplaced energy.   It is my due diligence as an artist to realize this promise.  As I transpose and transmute my experiences on canvas. My work revolves around displaced identity and unity, through the lens of integration and assimilation into American Culture as an African American Male.

Through my work I communicate and form relationships with my audience. With my subject matter I advance the opportunity to introduce them to the world of artistic expression and explain my views. I have sincere hopes to reach all who can connect with unity, oneness, and the perspective of exciting hope. My ultimate vision is to blend the worlds of fine art with the world of street art. I aim to be the visual voice of current cultural conditions through the dichotomy of loving through oppressive conditions in order to heal the world.

My art cultivates my identity as an artist so as to most fully implement life experiences gleaned from self-exploration, reflection, and cultural conditioning. As an artist I focus on the current climate conditions of systemic racism (Force), and the juxtaposition of the physical black body (Object) and the divine spirit (Electromagnetism). Whereas, every piece I render starts out with a physics equation, and these questions. Am I Black, or am I Human? Am I a creator, or that which is created? Am I ever free while I am in this skin?  Who am I, therefore who are we? Signed Love.  Love was the first medicine, and we distribute it through our Art.

I am a firm believer that art was the first healer to us all. We used art/creativity to heal, to express, and to communicate. As someone who first hand can admit, art has saved my life. Every creation is a constant ebb and flow of creation, creating, only to be re-created by what was created.  It’s the process of birth and decay, through electromagnetism.  In love we as a species create a synergy which is greater than the sum of the parts thus 1 + 1 = 3. To Make, Produce, or Bring into existence the artist that creates creations. I aspire to inspire, and stay committed to the promise that we are one, and we are free. As an individual I say I.  However, I am unified with we in my work. I am never absent of unity, but always searching for identity, both in American and African American culture, as I identify most with my aspect of being.

Each piece helps me become aware of cultural conditioning. This awareness allows me to speak back to hate with a message of love. In essence every piece is just a reflection of what’s in me. What’s in me is pure love, and love is light.  Light scatters the dark, and lends it color temperature to everything it touches.  So, in summary every painting I create is shedding light, lending love, or scattering darkness.
